Writers Guidelines
Content
Articles should be 700-2000 words maximum. All articles should
be written in the third person. Articles should not be self-serving
to a company. The article can, however, focus on one specific
project/mall/center/store, etc.
Authors writing articles that deal with trends should make sure
that they are presenting something relevant about the trend.
They should explore what caused the trend, when will it clear
up, etc. It should not briefly overview and explain one company's
view about the trend. Articles on general subjects (i.e. Entertainment)
should refer to specific projects, retailers, etc. for credibility
purposes. Quotes are requested in articles. We like quotes from
retailers, center managers, and company presidents when applicable.
They are an excellent source of credibility for the authors
and the magazine. Articles dealing with problems of the industry
should not just present the problem, but offer solutions attributed
to industry members and examples.
Tips
Shopping Center Business is a business magazine. Articles should
represent the business end of the subject. Dollar figures are
encouraged in every article. Examples are necessary. Shopping
Center Business is on the cutting edge of this industry, and
it is our articles that keep us there. It is our desire to bring
the highest quality of editorial available to the industry in
every article.
Pictures
As far as pictures go, any and all will be considered. The more
we have, the nicer the magazine (and the article) looks. Pictures
can be JPEG, EPS or TIFF format, at least 300 dpi and 3 by 5
inches. If submitting charts, we will need original artwork,
preferrably in color.

information is also available in PDF format. Click

Format
Articles should be submitted to the editor by email in Microsoft
Word for Macintosh or IBM. Deadlines for articles are the 15th
of the month, two months out (i.e. April 15 for June issue)
or when scheduled with the editor. A hard copy should accompany
the diskette and any supporting artwork. An author's affiliation
of 10-20 words should be included at the beginning of the article,
and should contain the author's name, company affiliation, and
city. If longer than necessary, they will be edited.
Submission
Articles and disks should be sent via a service with tracking
capabilities (i.e. FedEx, Airborne, etc.) and with all supporting
artwork.
