City Creek Center Opens in Salt Lake

by Nate Hunter

Salt Lake City — The center’s star amenity is a 3,280-foot creek.

Salt Lake City  — Taubman’s City Creek Center opened March 22, the only regional center in the United States to open in 2012. Its namesake amenity is the 1 kilometer-long creek, a manmade stream billed as the largest flowing watercourse of its kind built on-structure in the United States. It was designed and built by SWA Group.

The 23-acre mixed-use City Creek Center, across the street from Temple Square of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), is anchored by Nordstrom and Macy’s.  The Macy’s building features the restored facade of the historic ZCMI department store, which occupied the site for many years. ZGF Architects designed the residential towers, and Callison Architects in partnership with Hobbs and Black designed the retail center.
